NS enables the safety and security of the Nation’s nuclear forces through its exercise and evaluation of nuclear weapons policy and incident response.

EDUCATE AND TRAIN

Educate and Train

NE provides vital nuclear, chemical and biological training courses to over 30,000 personnel annually through a broad range of tools. Located at Kirtland AFB in New Mexico, the Defense Nuclear Weapons School addresses a full range of training needs through its in-person, distance or mobile training unit courses, allowing for optimal support to the warfighter.

OVERSEE NUCLEAR INSPECTIONS

Oversee Nuclear Inspections

NE conducts rigorous, independent nuclear surety inspection oversight for all Nuclear Capable Units at both the Navy and Air Force. In addition, NE oversees training of every Nuclear Weapons Technical Inspector in the DoD and hosts an annual symposium examining inspection trends and issues across the Services.

Provide Accountability and Logistics

NE’s Stockpile and Logistics departments perform work critical to guaranteeing the viability of the nation’s stockpile by verifying and validating all actions related to nuclear weapons hardware, software, processes, and procedures.

Execute Assessments

NE’s Mission Assurance Assessment department identifies vulnerability risks to key DoD missions and stakeholders, reducing the threats posed by adversaries around the globe. In addition to assessing mission survivability against a broad spectrum of threats, NE Mission Assurance teams provide remediation, mitigation, and training to Commanders at all levels.
